A Midsummer Night's Dream

by William Shakespeare, expanded by Kim de l`Horizon

Premiere on 13.1. 2022, Bühnen Bern

A balmy night; a young woman who flees with her great love into the forest ruled by nature spirits to escape a forced marriage; a plan for revenge out of fear of her own failure; a flower with intoxicating effects: a Midsummer Night's Dream. But on closer inspection, this Shakespearean “Midsummer Night's Dream” turns out to be a real nightmare...

Where Shakespeare's language ends, Kim de l'Horizon (in-house playwright at Bühnen Bern) begins to speak and thus illuminates a utopian world that is not based on the principles of exploitation and power, but on an ethic of love. “This here, man-king, this is my storm,  and I thunder and blast  lightning, that your fruits may rot and shrivel. I am the storm for those who don’t get to be stormy. How do I feel? Powerful. Powerful is how I feel.”
