Welcome!

I am a theatre director and educator and am engaged in various areas of teaching as well as in the context of social justice and diversity training. My biography is characterized by diverse cultural contexts: I was born and raised in Hong Kong, studied in China, the US (BfA Theatre Directing, Tisch School of the Arts, NYU), and Berlin (Free University, BA Political Science), and my family lives in South Africa and New York. These places have always been closely connected to my life, making inter- and transculturality an integral part of my personality.

My artistic work spans the state theater scene and art universities in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. I have directed productions for the Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, DNT Weimar, Staatstheater Mainz, Lucerne Theater, Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart and Bühnen Bern, among others, as well as at the Zurich University of the Arts and the University of the Arts Graz. My work includes feminist, sociopolitical and critical approaches to classical dramatic texts as well as collaborations with contemporary authors, whose texts I regard as invitations for reflection on social change. I am also interested in developing projects on current and controversial topics.

As an educator, I was a professor of acting at Cours Florent Berlin and have held various teaching positions in the field of Performing Arts and Social Justice and Diversity training, including at Free University Berlin, Alice Salomon Hochschule for Social Work and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). In 2023, I co-developed a training concept for Social Justice in the Performing Arts: www.soju-daku.de.

I am inspired by challenging texts, curious and enthusiastic performers, committed team members and theater as a collective experiment - with everything this entails. In terms of content, I am particularly interested in the intersections of performing arts and social justice topics that arise through different perspectives, counter-narratives and artistic strategies for reinterpreting discriminatory discourses. My artistic work consistently stands for critical, feminist and post-colonial approaches to all forms of text as well as for play-centered and text-based working methods. I value a deep engagement with specific topics and am also always looking for poetic and/or humorous explorations of the work. Close artistic collaboration with my team is particularly important to me and I care about a conscious and precise way of approaching language and text. Openness, trust and playfulness are aspects that I value most in terms of collective work experiences.
